I like this.
Even it is a little cliche.
“It’s not how many times you get knocked down. It’s how many times you get up.” Or as my mom once told me, “You take a licken’ and keep on ticken’.”
I don’t know who first said it but I like it. A lot. As an “aspiring” actor/filmmaker/writer I’ve dealt with a lot of rejection. But even if I didn’t aspire to work in such a difficult industry it would still apply because let’s face it life can get tough and we all face “setbacks”. The hardest hits I’ve taken have come from life. And some of them…well….have knocked me flat on my arse.
During this fitness journey I’ve been knocked down a few times. I missed going to gym for whatever reason, felt so insecure that I wanted to say forget it, stepped on Evil Scale and saw a number that made me want to say “screw it” and order a scoop of every flavor from Baskin Robbins or fallen off the wagon with my food. But I think the key to my progress has been consistency. Every time I’ve fallen, I’ve gotten up again. And again. If I’m learning anything, it’s that perseverance will get me results.
I personally think anything of any value is hard work. Wether that be friendship, a killer job or your HEALTH. But with everything there will be “setbacks”. You’ll have that pint of ice cream. Your co-worker will get that promotion you’ve been eyeing. You’ll get into an disagreement with someone you love. As hard as it may be I try to look at these “setbacks” as opportunities. Opportunities to learn about myself and the world around me. In my opinion, the difference between an ordinary attitude and an extraordinary attitude is willingness to get up and go for it again. Whatever that “it” is. Maybe a workout, a new job, maybe you’ve been hurt and are afraid to be in another relationship. Oooooh…that’s a big one. Too big for this post!! But you get the point.
