Enjoying Thanksgiving
I was going to title this post “Surviving Thanksgiving” but as I thought about it, I decided Thanksgiving should be enjoyed not survived. In order to enjoy Thanksgiving, I have planned my meals this week accordingly so I won’t have any or at least not much guilt to stand in the way of my enjoyment. Here is my plan to enjoy Thanksgiving but still be able to fit into my bikini!
1. I’ve been eating relatively clean all week.
2. Tomorrow I’m going to eat smaller clean meals up until The Big One. That way I won’t be starving when turkey time hits. If there are any fresh veggies out as appetizers I will eat a big plate of those with a little dip.
3. I will fill my plate this way. Huge servings of any fresh veggies (salad, any steamed veggies, ect.) The idea is I’ll fill up quicker so I won’t eat as much of the casserole-y stuff which is my weakness. Next will be the turkey. I’ll be sticking with the white meat. With the room I have left on my plate, I’ll dish myself out moderate servings of mash potatoes, stuffing, and any casseroles. Lastly, I’ll put enough gravy on my potatoes and turkey to enjoy it but I won’t drown in it. I’ve learned that it doesn’t take as much of these things (gravies, dressings, spreads) as I thought to still enjoy my food. I’m going to play bread by ear. If I REALLY want bread then I’ll have some. If I don’t REALLY want it then I’ll just pass on the bread. I WILL NOT stress or feel guilty about anything I eat. But I also won’t eat things I don’t REALLY want just because it’s Thanksgiving.
4. After I’ve slowly enjoyed all my food. I’ll go back for smallish second helpings of the things I enjoyed the most.
5. I’ll be skipping dessert because I’m not eating sugar this year. Instead I’ll enjoy a cup of coffee or tea while everyone else eats pumpkin pie. Since I haven’t eaten desserts since last December this won’t be that hard. If I were to eat dessert I’d have a medium piece of whatever I wanted. If there were more than one dessert then I’d eat small pieces of the ones I wanted.
6. The day after I will go back to eating clean but I WILL enjoy a turkey sandwich. My favorite: turkey breast, cream cheese, cranberry sauce, a little stuffing on toasted Ezekiel 4:9 bread. Like I said, I’ll just go easy on the cream cheese, cranberries, and stuffing. I’ve found it helpful to measure out things like cream cheese. Just grab a tablespoon and use that to put on the cream cheese. It really is more than enough but less than I would put on if I used a knife. Little things like that really add up over time. Yum!!!!!
That’s my plan. I love Thanksgiving because it one of those holidays that hasn’t been taken over by consumerism and other sorts of hoopla. Also I want to let you know how THANKFUL I am for my readers. Each one of you are very special to me.
