Rock-N-Roll
You may be familiar with Stephen Covey’s rock analogy. If not it goes something like this.
Take a jar and fill it halfway with sand. Next add some small pebbles. Is is full? Now try to squeeze some big rocks on top. Do they fit? Probably not….at least not very many. It’s an object lesson on setting priorities. In order for all the big rocks to fit they must go in first. Sand? Rocks? What?? The big rocks are the things in life that really matter. Yet so often we fill our lives with the small things first, the sand and pebbles, hoping to take care of the big things later. Before we know it there is very little to no room left for the big rocks, the things that matter most. Yet if we take care of the most important matters first the small stuff will fill in. Here a cute video. Notice EXERCISE is one of the big rocks. Real food/cooking should be on another rock.
I could write a million blog posts on this topic and probably come up with some douzie (Yeah, I’m from the mid-west.) analogies because it’s of of my favorite things…to…to…talk about. (Sigh) Admittedly, putting it into practice is a little easier said than done when there are emails to answer, phone calls to return, blogs to read, errands to run, and You Tube. Which is why I’m choosing to stop blogging for a while. I’ve been meaning to get the blog redesign, Girl-Heroes, up for months but I keep picking up sand. Which is why I have almost 100 halfway finished blog posts in my drafts file. The pebbles. So onto the rocks. I’ll be back in a few weeks. I’m excited.
