Too Cold for Cucumbers
We are left today for Indiana and will be gone for just over three weeks. While I love to travel I always get a little nervous about getting derailed from my healthy lifestyle. I’m visiting family and my sister and parents both have home gyms. My sister also belongs to a gym and mentioned getting me a pass. A friend let us borrow P90X, which I’ve wanted to try just to see what’s it’s all about. I’ve seen some pretty amazing results online. So I have some options and really won’t have an excuse not to exercise. It’s the food. Always the food. I know myself and I know I think of every excuse in the book to justify eating everything I want and then some. “I’m on vacation” is at the top of that list of excuses. But I’m going to be on vacation for just over three weeks. THREE WEEKS. That could do a lot of damage and to be honest, I haven’t been that strict the last two months so I’m already a few pounds above where I like to be and it’s amazing how a few pounds can affect the wearability of certain jeans.
So mentally I’ve been preparing. It’s a tradition for my husband and I to go to Bazebeaux pizza every time we visit but I’ll remind myself that a 3rd slice will taste just like the 1st and 2nd slices and a few spoonfuls of pesto should suffice instead of a cup full of pesto. One should think anyway. There is also a Long John Silvers in my town and I’ve been pretty honest about my love of the LJS. I know. I know. Probably one of the worst fast food places out there in terms of health but I’m human and I have my weakness. In the past, I’ve been know to go there a few times a week. That was then. This is now. I’m reminding myself that nothing taste as good as feeling light and fit. Right now at my desk that’s easy to say. Not so much when I’m staring at the bread basket on the center of the table. One of the struggles I face is that it’s COLD in Indiana and that makes eating some of my staple foods like salads and fresh fruit and veggies less appealing. When it’s cold I like hot comfort food. Whine.
0ff to a questionable start with a big icky chewy panini at the Burbank airport.
Things just got a bit better with a chicken salad from Bon Pain at Dallas Ft Worth where I’m writing from.
I refuse to let food control my life. I’m going to do my best to remember to stay sane but still have a good time. Besides who says “fun food” = “fun times”? Yeah, that’s what I’ll tell myself.
What do you eat when it’s cold? You certainly don’t make cool crisp salads and smoothies or do you?

Oh my gosh! I feel like I could have written this post about all my trips to MS! I always start out with a great eating/exercising plan and then totally talk myself out of it the minute the smell of cornbread, catfish, and hush puppies fill the air. Luckily I have never stayed more than a week or else my clothes I packed might not fit on the way home. Good luck, have fun, and don’t be too hard on yourself
Thanks Courtney!
lol – It’s raining and I am freezing at this very moment while drinking a cold protein shake. What do I do next? Blast the heat until I warm back up.
Have a great time and enjoy your vacation. Enjoy the good food the holidays bring. Like Courtney said, don’t be too hard on yourself. Pick what you *really* want to indulge in and then just make good choices at all of the other meals. It will balance out 😉
have fun! you will do a great job keeping your eating on track~you are just that amazing!
Yes, killer combo–the cold, the holidays, and away from home! Hope it went well for you, but no matter– you know what to do and will be back on track when you get home
I can relate to your struggles–my ultimate goal also is to be able to stop at 2 slices of pizza–or just say no, I don’t care for any Christmas cookies, fudge and Baileys! I never cease to be amazed at how bad the stuff makes me feel–and yet- I still crave it–but not as much as I used to and that is progress I guess.
I am 12 weeks out now from my 1st competition. Read your blogs about them and we have a lot in common! Thanks for all your info here—hope I get an opportunity to meet you some day. Have a safe trip home–oh, I live in Ohio–and after a while you just go ahead and do the salad and smoothies even in January
Hey Sal! Pizza and nachos are major weakness for me. Sometimes I amaze myself how many slices I can fit into my belly and I am so with you, it makes me feel super icky too. But does that stop me??? Noooo. Very cool that you have a competition set for this year! Keep in touch and let me know how it goes.
